Syracuse, N.Y. — Jordan Yamamoto will get first crack at getting the Syracuse Mets off to a winning start.
Syracuse manager Chad Kreuter said Yamamoto will be the opening day starter for Syracuse when the Mets host Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for a 6:35 p.m. contest at NBT Bank Stadium.
The righty spent last season with the Miami Marlins, tossing just 11.1 innings.
Two of the Mets’ top 10 prospects according to MLB.com start the season in Syracuse: outfielder Khalil Lee (No. 7) and pitcher Thomas Szapucki (No. 10).
Teams are allowed to have active rosters capped at 28 players plus a three-player taxi squad.
