It’s Sunday morning and all the stats are in for this weekend’s game, and they make one thing official – West Virginia is currently No. 1 in the country in total defense. And, when looking at all of the defensive statistics, that may not be just that one category, but the Mountaineers might actually have the best defense in the nation, at least statistically.
After Saturday’s game where the Mountaineers held Kansas to just 157 yards of total offense, the defense is now allowing, on average, 240.3 yards per game this season. That’s No. 1 in the nation, ahead of Air Force at 241.0, but the Falcons have only played one game. Clemson is the next closest eligible team in total defense, and the Tigers have allowed 264.6 yards per game so far this season.
