Friday’s 7-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox was the Baltimore Orioles 100th loss of the 2021 season. The Birds have now posted triple-digit losses three times (2018, 115 and 2019, 108) over the last four seasons; 2020 was a pandemic-shortened season.
Austin Hays continues to swing a hot bat. He went 1 for 4 with a run scored and 1 RBI, a result of his second inning homerun, his 21st of the year. Since August 24th, the start of his 17 game hitting streak, Hays has slashed .330/ .366/ .716 with 6 doubles, 2 triples, 8 homeruns, 22 RBI and a 1.082 OPS over 23 games. Sadly, the Orioles went 9-15 (.375) over that same time period (Hays sat out the game on September 9th).
The Orioles had more strikeouts (5) than hits (4). Getting the other 3 hits were Cedric Mullins (1 for 4), Ramon Urias (1 for 3) and Kelvin Gutierrez (1 for 3); all three hits were singles.
