In June the NFL apologized for its previous stand on players’ protesting racial inequality during the Star Spangled Banner. Now the league will add another song to the pregame that celebrates Black culture.
Before all Week 1 games in the NFL, teams will play “Lift Every Voice and Sing” a song that’s often referred to as the Black National Anthem. The Patriots are scheduled to host Miami at Gillette Stadium to open the season on Sept. 13. ESPN’s The Undefeated’s Jason Reid reported the plan.
According to the Washington Post, “The NFL is considering allowing players to wear helmet decals or jersey patches this season with the names of victims of systemic racism and police brutality, according to a person familiar with the deliberations.”
