Michigan softball sweeps Penn State, extends win streak to 7

Michigan’s softball team is rolling through the Big Ten this season.

The 19th-ranked Wolverines grabbed an early lead against Penn State on Sunday and held on for a 5-3 win, completing a four-game sweep in University Park, Pennsylvania.

Michigan (28-5) has won seven in a row to pad its lead in the conference standings. Minnesota is in second place at 25-7, followed by Northwestern at 24-12. The Big Ten is playing a conference-only schedule in 2021.

The Wolverines cruised through the first three games of the series, winning 7-1 Friday before 10-0 and 12-2 six-inning victories Saturday.

Seniors Lou Allan and Taylor Bump continued their hot streaks at the plate. Bump had two seven hits during the series, including her seventh and eighth home runs of the season. Allan tied Bump for the team lead in home runs with a two-run blast Sunday that gave Michigan a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
